What is the mood for these 2 poems
Hay for the horses by Gary Snyder and The Changing Light by Lawrence Ferlinghetti
Let me read them.
I need the tone an theme too...I cant figure out what all they are
Is this it? What tones are you required to choose from. He had driven half the night From far down San Joaquin Through Mariposa, up the Dangerous Mountain roads, And pulled in at eight a.m. With his big truckload of hay behind the barn. With winch and ropes and hooks We stacked the bales up clean To splintery redwood rafters High in the dark, flecks of alfalfa Whirling through shingle-cracks of light, Itch of haydust in the sweaty shirt and shoes. At lunchtime under Black oak Out in the hot corral, — The old mare nosing lunchpails, Grasshoppers crackling in the weeds — "I'm sixty-eight," he said, "I first bucked hay when I was seventeen. I thought, that day I started, I sure would hate to do this all my life. And dammit, that's just what I've gone and done."
yes that is Hay for the horses by Gary Snyder. and It donesn't give me choices
Wait, are you writing something for this, cause if so, we aren't allowed to help.
Ok, now, what is the next passage?
The changing light at San Francisco is none of your East Coast light none of your pearly light of Paris The light of San Francisco is a sea light an island light And the light of fog blanketing the hills drifting in at night through the Golden Gate to lie on the city at dawn And then the halcyon late mornings after the fog burns off and the sun paints white houses with the sea light of Greece with sharp clean shadows making the town look like it had just been painted But the wind comes up at four o’clock sweeping the hills And then the veil of light of early evening And then another scrim when the new night fog floats in And in that vale of light the city drifts anchorless upon the ocean
I can help. I helped students before with constructing essays and or paragraphs. This is no different. Just don't rely on me for the whole answers.
Ah! Now, what moods are you said to choose from, or any mood?
Im not relying on whole answers I just need help cuz im not good at mood, tone, and theme. I can choose any mood, theme, and tone. I just cant find them.
Alright, the tone of the man in the passage, should give it all away. Hint: "I'm sixty-eight," he said, "I first bucked hay when I was seventeen. I thought, that day I started, I sure would hate to do this all my life. And dammit, that's just what I've gone and done."
Is he... Regretful? Maybe agitated? Upset on his lifestyle? Is he hinting that he dislikes his job at most?
I think based off that part he is regretting that he chose to continue doing his job instead of finding another.
Exactly. His whole theme is to go after your heart. Listen to it, to be satisfied. He didn't go to find a new job, therefore he spent his life; doing something that he didn't want to do. Something that bounded him up. What mood is contracted?
ummm....i would say sadness/ regret.
Julian
??
Correct,
And he is frustrated with himself. What shows this? Pull factual evidence to support this. Maybe how he curses?
Other words, his tone.
ohhhh see I didnt look at that one that way before
would the mood of the 2nd one be like ummmm.... happieness
Hmm, why happiness?
because it is describing a place and the way it describes it it sounds happy and pretty
Look back, how is it describing San F's. Lighting? Daunting? Maybe irregular??
Maybe how it is the light to guide others in the sea? Maybe it is the one attraction, in the depths of waters?
How it glows? How it stands tall? What shows this.
so maybe....ummm... eire?
with the sea light of Greece with sharp clean shadows making the town look like it had just been painted But the wind comes up at four o’clock sweeping the hills And then the veil of light of early evening And then another scrim when the new night fog floats in And in that vale of light the city drifts anchorless upon the ocean Maybe mysterious? First it is portrayed as making something look vivid with color. Then it goes back to eerie. It's mysterious lighting, unlike any other mere lighting, goes shining over the steady, dark waters. Happy and vivid at day, awake with wonder and eeriness at night. But lets elaborate it at night. Is it serene? Chilling serene wonders?
ya it is
So, we have the tone and mood, now, what is the theme?
ummm.... I am not sure
@MissSmartiez
Theme: Maybe, just because you are different, doesn't mean you aren't a wonder. You can be irregular and the most mysterious lighting. Evidence:The changing light at San Francisco is none of your East Coast light none of your pearly light of Paris The light of San Francisco is a sea light an island light And the light of fog blanketing the hills drifting in at night through the Golden Gate to lie on the city at dawn And then the halcyon late mornings Then, the other half.
at the same time, the most beautiful lighting.
ohhhhhh okay makes sense now thank you!!!!
