A sock drawer contains 10 white socks, 6 black socks, and 8 blue socks. If 3 socks are chosen at random , what is the probability of getting first a black sock, then a white sock, and then a blue sock?

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

How many socks do we have all together?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah we need the total socks in order to do this problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a total of 24 socks

OpenStudy (jingle535):

So then you figure out how many out of 24 socks are black, for the first picking

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then do I do 1 out of 24 or 6 out of 24

OpenStudy (jingle535):

6 out of 24, sorry I lost track of this

OpenStudy (jingle535):

Since 6 out of the 24 socks are black

OpenStudy (jingle535):

You then need to do the same thing for white socks, but remember you already took out 1 sock so you are at a total of 23 socks :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (jingle535):

So what do you think the chance is for white socks now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 10 out of 23?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for the help, I got it now

OpenStudy (jingle535):

Yep :) and no problem
