Barry scored 45, 58, and 46 points on three tests. How many points should he get on the fourth test to get an average score of 60? 91 points 92 points 93 points 94 points

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Please explain, first, how you would find the average of 42, 51 and 70.

@gottennis121

OpenStudy (gottennis121):

Find the mean of 42, 51, and 70.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

70?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@gottennis121 70?? where did u get 70

OpenStudy (gottennis121):

I meant 45, 58, and 46. Dude, I'll come back, no need to keep tagging me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now what

OpenStudy (gottennis121):

Find the mean. Add them, then divide by 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

49.6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to be exact 49.666666667

OpenStudy (mathmale):

So, to find the mean of three numbers, we add the three numbers together and then divide that sum by 3. Now, back to your original post. How would you set up an equation for the mean if ... "Barry scored 45, 58, and 46 points on three tests. How many points should he get on the fourth test to get an average score of 60?"

OpenStudy (mathmale):

The problem I gave you earlier was to help you review "mean" and how to find the "mean" of a set of numbers.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Your current problem involves four test scores. Write them out, please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um... i didn't get what he said what does he mean

He would like you to be involved with the quesiton, not let us do all the work.
