Which function rule is represented by the table? Will medal

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Hint: Determine whether or not this is a linear (straight line) function. Treat (0,3) and (2,7) as p oints. Find the slope of the line connecting these two points. Then try to find the y-intercept of the line.

OpenStudy (lollola):

Ermm, I don't really understand what you mean

OpenStudy (mathmale):

First, please explain in your own words what this problem is asking you to do.

OpenStudy (lollola):

To find what rule (such as add three, divide by two) the table is using?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

If you believe that "add three, div. by 2" is the rule / relationship, write it out and try it. Does it correctly predict other values in the given table? y=(x+3)/2 I'm not saying this is correct; instead, I tried to write symbolically what you told me.

OpenStudy (lollola):

Well the top is add one (I think) because 0+1=1 1+1=2 2+1=3 and the X part of the table is 0,1,2,3.

OpenStudy (lollola):

And the bottom seems to be adding three.. so add 1 than add 3?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Have you actually checked each solution? If you choose one of the x values in the table and substitute it into the equation, the equation MUST correctly predict y. Do a few examples, and show all of your work and your conclusions, please.

OpenStudy (lollola):

Honestly im so confused right now. Thanks so, so much for the help but im going to go to a live lesson (doing Eschool) and see if that helps, because sometimes its easier to have a person verbally speaking . Thanks again anyways though.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

You're welcome. Keep in mind that the goal of this problem is to come up with a linear relationship between x and y; its form might be as simple as y=mx+b.
