A counterclaim is: A claim pled against a plaintiff by a defendant, either in opposition to the relief sought or as an independent cause of action against the plaintiff. intransitive verb. So, basically in a nutshell it opposes the other side.

Counterclaim is what your opponent says like you say "Phones are dangerous" and your opponent counterclaim would be "Phones can be a help to society"
