think about this question and be prepared to discuss your reasoning: Should commercial fruit farmers be allowed to use ethylene to accelerate the ripening of fruit for the market? Why or Why not?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No because what happens the stuff that he uses have side effects. Then we might have

Plus it's not healthy for our bodies.its better take its time to grow

OpenStudy (atianaaaa):

could you give me any more information on this question

Here's some good link: http://www.drgourmet.com/askdrgourmet/ethylenegas.shtml#.Vu3m72QrL-k http://www.catalyticgenerators.com/ethylene-c2h4/ I'm not going to tell you your opinion, but here are some key points I think you should base your decision off of: 1. Ethylene is a natural plant hormone 2. The levels of ethylene found on plants are not harmful to humans 3. Ethylene makes plants ripen AND decay faster. 4. Produce that is ripened with ethylene is harvested before it is ripe. Therefore, the produce usually lacks the flavor it would usually have. Have you grew your own tomatoes or bought ones at a farmers market? If so, you have probably been surprised to find that they have much more flavor than the tomatoes you bought at the store.
