From the book The Men We Carry in Our Minds What does the author mean when he says "I'm convinced the past we must contend even deeper than speech"? Explain

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

@bookish610

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm reading it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He's talking with Ann (for the sake of time we'll call her Ann) and he's thinking about how she thinks females have it worse. The question makes me think this, The things we dealt with in the past ( and are trying to over come now) aren't all problems of words. There are times when actions speak louder than words and sometimes you can't recall exactly what someone said. but if they really did something to hurt you you won't ever forget what they did.

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

That makes sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you get it now?

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Yes

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

And than another question says How does the Sanders view the men he describes? How does he feel about these men? Isn't this basically the same question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not entirely

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Hmmmm okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the men at the beginning (the hard workers) are viewed as the future he wants to avoid. He doesn't want to be these men that he sees because their bodies break down before their time. 50 year olds who can hardly stand or hear. But at the same time he wants to avoid the sitting and waiting that the men of the armed forces seem to dwell in.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's what i got for that one i might need to re read it

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

I think that makes sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

don't you have one more question?

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Yeah

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Why did Sanders envy woman when he was young? What were his perceptions of women? Wasn't it he didn't think they did anything, like didn't have to go through the hard work men did?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes exactly!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i might add onto the first part . he also envied woman because he thought they didn't have to bear the guilt of being the person who had lost a job. They didn't have to worry about making a boss angry and getting fired.

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Ohhhhhh yeah I think I remember reading that somewhere in the story!

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Thank you so much :) today was good for both of us!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree! thank you for all of your help I hope I was able to return the favor! :)

OpenStudy (kayders1997):

Yes :) thank you!
