Max wants to decorate a 2-inch border around the edge of a poster he is making. He drew this diagram to show how it should look.https://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1568000_1568500/1568048/1/764bde7771db028c97cf3c8f999e4d3395fc1a2b/MATH_CORE_141210_141328.jpg How many square inches of border will Max decorate?

OpenStudy (alexishope47):

Do you have any idea about what to do?

OpenStudy (alexishope47):

@friskthehuman you there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry I'm here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm actually done with this test, but I need help with something else.

Jesse and her family are painting their house. When they first started, they bought sixteen 4-cup cans of paint. In order to paint their house, it took all of those cans plus they needed another 16-cup can of paint. How many cups of paint did it take Jesse and her family to paint their house? A. 64 B. 80 C. 112 D. 71

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Sixteen 4-cup cans How many cup cans is that in total?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let me see...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would be 80 all together. They had sixteen 4-cup cans of paint then, they used all those cans (4 x 16) then they added 16 more. So 80.

Next one.

Cecilia works at a veterinarian clinic. They use a balance to measure the mass of animals. She places a small puppy on one side and 38 weights that each have a mass of 35 grams on the other side. However, to balance the two sides, she had to take away 4 of the weights. What is the mass of the puppy? A. 1,330 grams B. 1,190 grams C. 73 grams D. 69 grams

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Lets start it the same way Thirty-eight 35 gram weights is how much in total?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1330 grams

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@FortyTheRapper

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

So then it says she takes away 4 of those 35 grams weights What's four 35 grams weights?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@FortyTheRapper 140 grams

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

So if she put on 1330 grams then took away 140 grams, how would we solve this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Subtract. 1330 - 140 = 1190

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

B it must be then

At the beginning of the year, Mrs. Wilkinson's class had 18 packages of colored paper. So far, the class has used 488 pieces of colored paper. If each package of colored paper contained 75 pieces, how many pieces of colored paper does the class have left? A. 581 B. 395 C. 862 D. 1,838

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Any ideas on the first step? (Hint: It's like the first step on the last 2 problems)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not very good at math (I'm terrible -_-) at all. Some might say I';m incredibly stupid. So, no I don't Don't judge me.

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Eh, you're not. Everyone (including Qualified helpers) had to learn these things at one point in their time. So, she had 18 packages and each package had 75. It's like saying (18 x 75)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, I lost connection.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

18 x 75 =1350

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@FortyTheRapper

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anybody?

Billy has been to three more than four times as many baseball games as Brendan. Brendan has been to 11 baseball games. Complete the equation below to find out how many baseball games Billy has been to. 11 × ? + ? = ?

OpenStudy (greenbannanabob):

This is actually very simple to do. The 11 in the equation means the number of games Brendan has been to. Since Billy has been to 3 more than 4 times as many games as Brendan, the "four times" would mean that we multiply the number of games Brendan has been to, 11, by 4. Now our equation should look like this: \[11\times4+?=?\] Now we also know that Billy has been to 3 more than 4 times 11. That "more" means we have to add 3. The equation should now be: \[11\times4+3=?\] The last question mark can be found by just solving the first half of the equation.
