Mathematics 7 Online
OpenStudy (cheska_p):

First derivative of sec^2(x). I'm getting different answers online and I'm having trouble identifying which one is correct. Could you do a step by step explanation?

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

you know that \( (\sec x )' = \sec x \tan x\) ?? so you can chain it.

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

so \( (u^2)' = 2 u u' \) and u = sec x, if you like

OpenStudy (cheska_p):

So would the answer be 2sec^2(x)tan(x)?

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

y!

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

\[2\sec^2(x)\tan(x) \]

OpenStudy (cheska_p):

Thank you!

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

mp :-)
