remember protons are inside the nucleus while electrons are outside of it. |dw:1458772159197:dw| the number of electrons can change and that will result in an ion. if there are more protons than electrons you'll get a positive ion cation. that's if you've lost electron/s if you've gained an electron, the result will be an anion. but the number of protons = the identity of the element. |dw:1458772267984:dw|
