HEEEELLLP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Determine the perimeter of the figure below. Enter your numerical answer only. Use 3.14 for pi and round your answer to the nearest hundredth.
do u understand the concept?
same that is why i posted it do you know anyone who can help
@misssmartiez
Well, what we need to do is break the shape into familiar figures and then use the formulas we already know to find the solution. I see a semicircle, a trapezoid, and a triangle. Do you know the formulas to find the circumference of a circle and do you know about the p theorem?
pythagorean theorem*
ok well i know that here is half a circle and a triangle and some other shape
there*
Yep, that's right. Okay, I'll cheat for you just this time ;) To find the circumference, or area, of a semicircle we take the diameter and multiply it by pi, or in this case 3.14. So, we get aprox. 12.56. But, now we need to divide by two since we're dealing with a semicircle. 12.56 / 2 = 6.28. So, the circumference of the semicircle is 6.28. Does this make sense?
why do you divide it by 2
Because to find the area of ONE whole circle, we do d x pi, but we're dealing with HALF a circle. So in that case, we only need half the answer.
oh ok
:D Okay! Do you know about the pythagorean theorem?
kinda i dont exactly remember how to do it
Okay, I'll give you the run-down. We use the pythagorean theorem to find the hypotenuse of a right triangle, or the long diagonal side of a triangle with a 90 degree angle. We take the first straight line, or leg, multiply it by itself, then we add the second leg and multiply it by itself, and we get the hypotenuse times the hypotenuse, and we must find the square root of that. So, in an algebraic equation, it would look like this: (a x a) + (b x b) = (c x c) We can find length of a diagonal line with this. So, with this example we would need to find the length of the trapezoid side. Does this make sense?
yes it makes sense, so your saying its a'2+b'2=c'2
i know the long side is 6
Actually, it's the square root of 6, so aprox. 2.44.
i think the other two are 3
We then multiply 2.44 x 2 because there are two sides. We then get 4.88. 4.88 + 6.28 (the semicircle) = 11.16. This is what we have so far.
ok
On to the sides of the triangle. We do practically the exact same thing. 3^2 + 1^2 = 10. sqrt (square root) 10 = 3.16. I'll leave the last step up to you. 3.16 + 11.16 = ...
Wait, 3.16 x 2 = 6.32. 6.32 + 11.16 = ...
oh pk
ok*
lol.
So, 6.32 + 11.16 = ...
that equals 17.38
Close, 17.48. But overall, great job! *Hands smart cookie*
thx :)
