Read this letter written by US General Ulysses S. Grant. Which sentences most clearly indicate that the writing style is informal and that this is a personal letter?
All I can say is that I am well. I have the enemy closely hemmed in all round. My position is naturally strong and fortified against an attack from outside. I have been so strongly reinforced that Johnston will have to come with a mighty host to drive me away.—I do not look upon the fall of Vicksburg as in the least doubtful. If, however, I could have carried the place on the 22nd of last month, I could by this time have made a campaign that would have made the State of Mississippi almost safe for a solitary horseman to ride over. As it is, the enemy have a large army in it, and the season has so far advanced that water will be difficult to find for an army marching, besides the dust and heat that must be encountered. The fall of Vicksburg now will only result in the opening of the Mississippi River and demoralization of the enemy. I intended more from it. I did my best, however, and looking back can see no blunder committed.
A. "All I can say is that I am well" B. "My position is naturally strong and fortified against an attack from outside" C. "I do not look upon the fall of Vicksburg as in the least doubtful." D. "The fall of Vicksburg now will only result in the opening of the Mississippi River and demoralization of the enemy."
Hello! Okay so for this question we need to look at what answer choice makes the letter Friendly and basically like your writing to your family. If we read the answer choices, which one do you think is the answer?
I am gonna tell you already that D is incorrect because you wouldn't write to your family like you're writing to a general of the army.
A should be what? When it states 'I' what does it clarify? First person maybe? Based on your personal what?
Do you want a hint? @Haksorin
Do you really start an entry by saying your well? Or greeting? Like Daniee said, D is out.
We can rule out C and B because they are both to formal! We are looking for informal. That means that the letter has to sound personal. So for ME, I would say that A is correct because if I was writing to you I would probably include that in there. Everything else sounds to serious and not friendly at all. Therefore your answer is A. Hope that helps you love. :)
Exactly, another thing, you don't start off a message by saying what YOU feel. You say Dear ---, or Hello ---, then start it off. If not, it would be informal and or rude.
meddle me and I will meddle you
Good job! You did a wonderful job at explaining. @Daniee_Bruhh and @MissSmartiez You both deserve medals <3 ^-^
