OpenStudy (fairy733189):

You just have to follow the order of operations again. Do you want me to show you how?

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

PEMDAS GIRL!

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

What is in the brackets, in parenthesis? (Parenthesis first because in PEMDAS, P stands for what?)

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

1: (10 - 4 x 2) We do multiplication first sweet heart. M is before S! So using mental math, 4 x 2 = 8. Minus that with 10. 2. 2: 12 divided by 12?

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

2 divided by 12, forgive me for that typo :P Well, 6 x 2 = 12, so, that might be a simple step. Now we have...?

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

103 • [6] + 3 10 x 6 = 60. Mental math. Plus three? 1,2,3 easy as can be! 60 + 3 = 63. Answer, 63 ;)

OpenStudy (anthonyym):

Use the order of operations. The mnemonic device is PEMDAS, which is the order you simplify the expression. It stands for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction. So do parentheses first. You have (10 -4 * 2). In that, you do multiplication first because that's before addition/subtraction. It becomes (10 - 8) which is 2. Now it's 103 * [12 ÷ 2] + 3. There's still parentheses, so simplify it. 103* 6 + 3 Multiplication is before division. 618 + 3 =621

OpenStudy (fairy733189):

103 • [12 ÷ (10 – 4 • 2)] + 3 First you begin with the P - parenthesis The numbers you begin with are (10 - 4 • 2) Even in the parenthesis, follow PEMDAS So you would first multiply then subtract. This is how your equation will look 103 • [ 12 ÷ ( 2)] + 3 Next, you finish what is inside the parenthesis: 103 • 6 + 3 Then multiply and then add: 618 + 3 621 is your answer

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

* face palm* I just checked. 103 instead of 10. So yes. |dw:1459136907858:dw|
