I need help how do i factor
\[y=x ^{2}-x-12\]
i'm not sure if this is right but if you subtract the x from the x^2 you simply get an x and that leaves you with y = x-12, which I think is the answer
That is not the answer... do you know the methods to factorise a quadratic equation? Have a look at this: http://www.purplemath.com/modules/factquad.htm

To factor the equation, you need two numbers that add to the coefficient of x (-1 in this case) and multiply to the product of the constant (-12) and the coefficient of the x^2 (1).
So two numbers that add to -1 and multiply to -12. I like to organize it like this.|dw:1459204837182:dw|
