OpenStudy (rushwr):

What are , 1) Primary standard solutions 2) Secondary standard solutions 3) Tertiary standard solutions ????? @photon336

OpenStudy (photon336):

Interesting, I've never heard of this definition before

OpenStudy (photon336):

1. primary standard = substance of high purity dissolved in a known volume of solution.

OpenStudy (photon336):

I guess it seems like a reference

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Yeah this is regarding analytical chemistry, all about solutions used during titrations !

OpenStudy (rushwr):

I kinda understood what a primary standard is , but don't understand the secondary one and the tertiary ones

OpenStudy (photon336):

"The term secondary standard can also be applied to a substance whose active agent contents have been found by comparison against a primary standard. Concentrations of standard solutions may be expressed in kmol m −3, mol dm −3, or in terms more closely related to those used in specific titrations (as titres)."

OpenStudy (photon336):

so I guess primary standard is a reference you use to help find the concentration of a secondary standard.

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Primary standards of what I learned from the note was something that is going with a stoichiometric ratio 1:1

OpenStudy (photon336):

ok here I found a better definition "Standards are materials containing a precisely known concentration of a substance for use in quantitative analysis." we know this: "A standard provides a reference that can be used to determine unknown concentrations or to calibrate analytical instruments." "A secondary standard is a standard that is prepared in the laboratory for a specific analysis. It is usually standardized against a primary standard"

OpenStudy (photon336):

so In English

OpenStudy (photon336):

It seems that we use a primary standard as a known concentration, we use to help figure out unknown concentrations. the secondary standard is the concentration of something that we are analyzing in a lab and it is "standardized against the primary standard"

OpenStudy (photon336):

3) Tertiary standard solutions i have no idea I couldn't find anything on those

OpenStudy (rushwr):

oh thank you soo much that was easier to understand !!!!! Phew thanks a lot !

OpenStudy (rushwr):

I read a lot of articles didn't get it though !!!!!

OpenStudy (photon336):

yeah, I always try to put stuff into my own words

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Oh well thanks a bunch again :)

OpenStudy (photon336):

no problem
