OpenStudy (gokuporter):

Where is the lowest-pitched string located when a standard guitar is placed on a person's knee to play it? on top on bottom the third string from the top the middle string

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

On a standard guitar the lowest-pitched string is bottom string. I don't see how placing it on a person's knee has any significance to the question...

OpenStudy (anthonyym):

Well maybe some people play it vertically or something. Well it's the E string.

OpenStudy (tanner23456):

It depends what you call the top or the bottom. It's the one that's closest to you. I would consider that the top string.

OpenStudy (anthonyym):

Well you normally play the guitar with the lowest-pitched string on the bottom.

OpenStudy (tanner23456):

@anthonyym What would you call the bottom? The one closest to the floor or the one closest to you?

OpenStudy (tanner23456):

I just learned that the descriptions, in fact, have nothing to do with distance or position. top, bottom, and middle are descriptions referring to pitch, so, in this case, the bottom string is the one with the lowest pitch.

OpenStudy (algorithm):

What sort of difference does it make when we play on our knee?

Atsie (atsie):

^@Algorithm The only difference that I can think of in relation to your question is the fact that wood moves and a lot of times that is half the reason why it can go out of tune. Wood moves because of temperature, position, and pressure. So if you go from taking it off a stand and putting it sideways on your knee it can move and change pitch sometimes on the bottom string. (or any other for that matter -depending on the guitar and the wood) I don't take credit for my knowledge of this. My dad actually taught me. :)
