Matthew bought a new skateboard from Kelly’s Skateboard Shack. It was on sale for 30% off and he paid $56, what was the original price before the discount?

OpenStudy (annie12m):

All I know is $56 = 70% ? = 30%

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well, the original price was "x", and that was the 100% of it now, take off 30% of that, and you'd end up with $56 so, 56 is really the 70% of the original price so \(\begin{array}{ccllll} price&\$ \\\hline\\ x&100\\ 56&70 \end{array}\implies \cfrac{x}{56}=\cfrac{100}{70}\)

OpenStudy (annie12m):

So cross multiply? x 100 --- * --- = 70x + 5600 56 70 /70 /70 = 80 @jdoe0001

OpenStudy (annie12m):

$80 is the regular price

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yeap

OpenStudy (annie12m):

Thanks!
