Need help with numbers 5-8

OpenStudy (samirahsamirah):

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

\[m = \frac{ y2 - y1 }{ x2 - x1 }\]

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Take a look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Cm7hjMUsrQ @SamirahSamirah It will show you how to solve these problems.

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Tag me if your still confused after watching the video :)

OpenStudy (samirahsamirah):

okay thank you

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Your welcome

OpenStudy (samirahsamirah):

i just watched this video like not to long ago before i came on here i did not understand a THING @KendrickLamar2014

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Ok, well can you substitute this: \[m = \frac{ y2 - y1 }{ x2 - x1 }\] @SamirahSamirah

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

For the first question, we have points: \[(-5,-3) ~ and ~ (5,4)\]

OpenStudy (samirahsamirah):

no i did that already lol i'm trying to figure out number 5: (6,-2),m = -3

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Oh ok, my bad. Let me check the problem.

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

If we have a point, ( x1 , y1 ), and a slope, m, here's the formula we use to find the equation of a line: \[y - y1 = m(x - x1)\]

OpenStudy (samirahsamirah):

using that i got the answer m= -3/4 is that correct

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Let me solve it..

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

I do not get the same answer as you do. Can you show me your steps? @SamirahSamirah

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Here are my steps to solve this question: \[y - (-2) = -3(x-6) \] \[y+2 = -3x + 18\] \[~~~-2~~~~~~~~~~~~-2\] \[y = -3x + 16\]

OpenStudy (samirahsamirah):

i used a calculator :/ well they have a algebra calculator and i used it

OpenStudy (samirahsamirah):

@KendrickLamar2014

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

You don't need a calculator. You can do these problems by hand.

OpenStudy (samirahsamirah):

they are hard to me @KendrickLamar2014

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, for number 5, use the point slope formula: y=mx+b

OpenStudy (samirahsamirah):

can you do the first one for me? as an example

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok m=-3 (6,-2) y=-3x+b -2=-3(6)+b -2=-18+b b=16 y=-3x+16

OpenStudy (samirahsamirah):

sorry computer problems @Lovelarap i'm going to try the next one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SamirahSamirah it ok. tell me the answer when your done so i can see if it's right

OpenStudy (samirahsamirah):

Okay i'm lost now i need a step by step process @Lovelarap

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol ok, can you do the first step?

OpenStudy (samirahsamirah):

Do i do m= 2 (5,-2) first like switch it around from (5, -2) m =-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, substitute your points and slope in to this equation: y=mx+b ps your looking for b

OpenStudy (samirahsamirah):

okay so after that then what?
