@ganeshie8 http://openstudy.com/users/yanasidlinskiy#/updates/56fe903ee4b0261a951e2266 ^^^^^ That's the mean and Standard Deviation calculated..

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Both of my Standard Deviation and Mean are wrong. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but...

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Both Top and bottom, I got.. .0263 and .9737.. Now my mean and standard deviation were wrong. Any idea?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

part a looks good!

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Yea, Ik part B tho is what's killing me

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

mean = 35*(1/38) + (-1)*37/38 right ?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Yes.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

and your grader says that is wrong is it ?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Yes.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

mean = 35*(1/38) + (-1)*37/38 = -0.0526 I don't really how the mean can be anything different...

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Do you think it could be the negative though?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Yea, it just means you lose your money if you play the game too many times

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

mean could be negative, zero, or positive

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

It happens to be negative in our case nothing unusual

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

It has to be negative otherwuse how can the casinos survive ?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Okay, here's what my Professor said: -0.05 is the mean 5.76 is the standard deviation. No idea how they got it.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

what do you mean you don't get it

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Like how did they get a wayyyy different answer that me and Hartnn got...?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

don't you see your professor has rounded the mean to two decimal places instead of four ?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

I know that....<< But like we got 24...***** and she got 5.76...

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

are you talking about standard deviation now ?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Yes....

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

good with mean ?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

What?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you were complaining about both `mean` and `standard deviation` earlier

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Ughgh. The F standard Deviation. How the f did they get a complete different answer than what I had

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

I am asking if you're okay with mean

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Yes,... I am....

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Good. Whats the value of mean that you're using ?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

What was the mean?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

haven't you calculated the mean yet ?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

I already posted what I had for the mean...^^^^^^^

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you have posted two values i need to know the specific value that you're going to use to calculate standard deviation

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

-0.05 or -0.0526

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

2nd one.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Okay, plug that in standard deviation formula

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

looks your professor is correct, the stadanrd deviation is indeed 5.76 may i see how you managed to get 24 ?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Yes..

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you're using wrong formula for standard deviation

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Ok. Thank you.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you may use the formula from here... https://people.richland.edu/james/lecture/m170/ch06-prb.html

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Ok
