PLEASE HELP FAST!! :)

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

@Bookworm14 do you think you can help?

OpenStudy (bookworm14):

im looking now :)

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

thank you!

OpenStudy (bookworm14):

So I am super new at this, and I would NOT take my word for it, but if I HAD to guess I would pick B @jim_thompson5910 what do you think?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

yeah i b is the one i kind of thought of first but I'm so bad at geometry i was like ok i better ask someone haha

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'm looking it over now

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

ok cool :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I agree. The other choices are wrong so they're eliminated. Only B is left over. What Nick should have done was use PD = PC in his first statement. If he did that, then his proof would be pretty solid

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

So yes, B is the correct answer

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

ok awesome, thank you both so much! I appreciate it :)

OpenStudy (bookworm14):

Welcome, thank you jim Thompson for coming so quickly!

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

hahaha yeah thanks jim!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no problem

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

would either of you mind checking another question? I think i have the answer but I'm not sure

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

go ahead

OpenStudy (bookworm14):

hey Sofia, any time you need help and im not around ask jim ,he is so thorough, and helpful! I would love to help, but im working on mine right now, and im already messin up cuz im so tired, i would hate to mess u up, jim will help :) *sleepy smile*

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

or anyone at the top of the user boards will be able to help you out. There are lots of knowledgeable helpers on this site

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what question did you want us to check?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

okay here it is i think it's the first choice but I'm not sure

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

and okay sounds good! thanks!! :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

let me see

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

aww haha thanks @Bookworm14 :) if u need help with anything on yours, let me know! Im not good at math at all but i'd be happy to try helping you out :)

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

ok

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok I spotted the error. It's all about how you order the letters when it comes to similarity

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

notice how triangle ABC has the 90 degree angle at the center, so does triangle BDC

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

but when it comes to triangle ABD, we run into a problem

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if you simply flip D and B and say triangle ADB, then it fixes the issue

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so that's why the answer is actually choice B

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Rule: If you claim that triangle ABC is similar to triangle DEF then this means angle A = angle D angle B = angle E angle C = angle F so that's why order matters

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

aahh i see, that makes perfect sense, thanks!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you can also look at the proportion they form in reason4 and notice how it will never yield to AB^2 = AC*AD. So that's another red flag

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

yeah, i see that now! thanks so much jim
