Michelson interferogram? Draw an interferogram that would be obtained with a Michelson interferometer with a 1,250 nm source where the moving mirror moves over a range of 0 to 25 um.

OpenStudy (kkutie7):

how in the heck do you draw one?

OpenStudy (kkutie7):

@ganeshie8 help?

this was all i was given

OpenStudy (ciarán95):

Hi @Kkutie7 .....I'm not 100% sure how specifically you would go about drawing this, but I think an interferogram for a Michelson Interferomenter is also called a fringe pattern. It's essentially a pattern of light and dark circles showing where two light beams have constructively (brightness) and destructively (darkness) interfered with one another. The pattern depends on how how adjust the wavelength of one of the beams (i.e. distance it's had to travel) relative to the other beam (which is a fixed, reference beam). You might be better posting this question in the Physics section I think to get a better answer!

OpenStudy (kkutie7):

I'm supposed to draw a spectrum like plot. I know the fringe pattern but that's not what I'm asked. This is for instrumental/ chemical analysis. I read somewhere that the plot is supposed to be: \[I(\delta)\] vs. \[\delta (cm)\] looking something like this:
