Tell whether x and y show direct variation, inverse variation, or neither. 3xy = 1 5/x = y 4/5x= y 6xy= 0 y/9x= 1

OpenStudy (nubeer):

In each equation either make x or y subject.. For Example: 1) 3xy = 1 y = 1/3x Can u do like this with every equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the first one would be inverse

OpenStudy (nubeer):

yes correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the second one would be direct because we would change it to y= 5x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (nubeer):

no.. look carefully

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be 5= yx

OpenStudy (nubeer):

you have to make y subject y =5/x it is inversely propotion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont understand

OpenStudy (nubeer):

what is the second question lets do step by step

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1459832107685:dw|

OpenStudy (nubeer):

ok here the y is already been made subject so u dont have to change it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so wouldn't it just be direct then?

OpenStudy (nubeer):

no.. the x is in denominator.. if the x is in numerator it would be directly propotional , if x is denominator then it would be inversely propotional.. its an easy way to remember

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay

OpenStudy (nubeer):

so can u solve all now?
