question(logical reasoning) The annual turnover of six software companies...

IBM would not be in operations.
how
read iii carefully
ok
\(\large \color{black}{\begin{align} \begin{array}{|c|c|c|c|} \hline Company& Area & Turnover\ in\ '000 \ crores & Saving \% \\ \hline TCS& market & & \\ \hline HP& sales & 48 & 35\% \\ \hline IBM& & 9 & \\ \hline Acc& & 30 & 25\% \\ \hline HCL& & & \\ \hline Inf & & & \\ \hline \end{array} \end{align}}\)
IBM would have to be 10%, because if it was the second lowest (20%), then it's savings would exceed 1/12 of any company.
i didnt understand how 20% would exceed 1/12
20% of 9000 is 1800. 1800*12=21600. The company that saves the most only saves 16800
ok i get it
\(\large \color{black}{\begin{align} \begin{array}{|c|c|c|c|} \hline Company& Area & Turnover\ in\ '000 \ crores & Saving \% \\ \hline TCS& market & & \\ \hline HP& sales & 48 & 35\% \\ \hline IBM& & 9 & 10\% \\ \hline Acc& & 30 & 25\% \\ \hline HCL& & & \\ \hline Inf & & & \\ \hline \end{array} \end{align}}\)
So whoever invests in operations saves 10800. Now that you have determined that some company saves 10800, you can logically deduce that it must be 18000 saving 60% investing in operations (no other numbers total 10800). Not sure which company it is...
what does iv say? it's cut off?
u can see here http://assets.openstudy.com/updates/attachments/570342bfe4b09810852a8975-mathmath333-1459831503180-unt7777j6j5h35h3h3itled.png
are you sure none of it's cut off?
let me check
|dw:1459832926143:dw| sry here it is complete
R&D + company who saves 20% = infosys + 18 can you logically deduce anything from the multiple choice answers? (asking, I don't know myself)
well R&D company can be IBM, Acc or HCL
we also know that R&D cannot be the one that has 18/60%/operations, or the company who saves 20%, or infosys. we also know that they are all different companies.
earlies i also found that inf, tcs,hcl have turnover;s of 12,18 24 but not in same order
yeah that's the first thing I deduced as well
so it's crucial to note that all 4 of those above are separate companies.
but we also know that the sums = eachother.
so infosys is 24 or 12.
in book it is given that R&D is Acc but i dont know how it deduced
noo don't tell me!
ok
infosys must be 24, and the other 2 are 30 and 12, otherwise the sum would not be possibl
how u deduced that infosys is 24'
it would have to be 24 or 12 because the only things it can be are 12, 18, 24, or 30 for the 4 companies (add to be equal sums). but we know that each company is separate (4 different companies), so logically it'd have to be 18+24=30+12. we know the side with 18 is the company who saves 60%, so infosys must be 24
so 4 companies: tcs, inf, hcl, and acc. we know acc is the 30, so acc either invests in R+D or saves 20%. we know inf is the 24. hcl and tcs are the 18 and 12. tcs does not invest in marketing. 18 invests in operations / saves 60%
oh tcs invests in marketing. oops. that makes it easier. so tcs invests in marketing, and that means that hcl is the 18 who invests 60%. tcs is the 12.
tcs: 12/?%/marketing hcl: 18/60%/operations acc: 30/?%/R&D because it's the last one left
can you update the chart idk how and it simplifies things
yes
\(\large \color{black}{\begin{align} \begin{array}{|c|c|c|c|} \hline Company& Area & Turnover\ in\ '000 \ crores & Saving \% \\ \hline TCS& market & & \\ \hline HP& sales & 48 & 35\% \\ \hline IBM& & 9 & 10\% \\ \hline Acc& & 30 & 25\% \\ \hline HCL& & & \\ \hline Inf & & 24& \\ \hline \end{array} \end{align}}\)
I also deduced the area of investment for the rest
\(\large \color{black}{\begin{align} \begin{array}{|c|c|c|c|} \hline Company& Area & Turnover\ in\ '000 \ crores & Saving \% \\ \hline TCS& market &12 & \\ \hline HP& sales & 48 & 35\% \\ \hline IBM& & 9 & 10\% \\ \hline Acc& R\&D & 30 & 25\% \\ \hline HCL& operations & 18 & 60\% \\ \hline Inf & & 24& \\ \hline \end{array} \end{align}}\)
and then finally, inf and tcs are 20 or 40% from the equation you have tcs, inf, hcl, and acc as the 4 companies acc+ company who saves 20% = infosys + hcl company who saves 20%: must be tcs last remaining company who saves 40%: inf! WE'RE DONE! that was a ton of fun, when I go to college I'll definitely take logic!
\(\large \color{black}{\begin{align} \begin{array}{|c|c|c|c|} \hline Company& Area & Turnover\ in\ '000 \ crores & Saving \% \\ \hline TCS& market &12 & 20\% \\ \hline HP& sales & 48 & 35\% \\ \hline IBM& & 9 & 10\% \\ \hline Acc& R\&D & 30 & 25\% \\ \hline HCL& operations & 18 & 60\% \\ \hline Inf & & 24&40\% \\ \hline \end{array} \end{align}}\)
oops! 40% does not invest in HR. so IBM: HR and Inf: Service
\(\large \color{black}{\begin{align} \begin{array}{|c|c|c|c|} \hline Company& Area & Turnover\ in\ '000 \ crores & Saving \% \\ \hline TCS& market &12 & 20\% \\ \hline HP& sales & 48 & 35\% \\ \hline IBM& HR & 9 & 10\% \\ \hline Acc& R\&D & 30 & 25\% \\ \hline HCL& operations & 18 & 60\% \\ \hline Inf & service & 24&40\% \\ \hline \end{array} \end{align}}\)
that was a blast
i will read the post now slowly
