OpenStudy (kathryn.goodnight):

is a negative plus a negative a positive?

OpenStudy (faiqraees):

No

OpenStudy (sagewilson):

No. A negative plus a negative is not a positive. If you were to add -6 and -9, you're basically subtracting more. so -6 + -9 would give you -15. If you were to do -6 + 9 you would get 3.

563blackghost (563blackghost):

That would be for multiplication.

OpenStudy (kathryn.goodnight):

how do I remember what equals what when I am adding a + and/or -?

OpenStudy (vsvampires309):

A negative plus a negative would get you another negative number, but a negative plus a positive would get you either a whole number or negative, depending on the numbers used in the expression.

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Where a negative times a negative equals a positive.

OpenStudy (sagewilson):

Think of it like this. If you add something bad to another bad thing, you'd get more bad. If you add something good to something bad you either get good or less bad. Am I making it easier to understand by saying this?

OpenStudy (kathryn.goodnight):

kind of

OpenStudy (missmeow):

Two negatives would equal a positive. Think like this: P + P = P N + N = P N + P =N P + N = N

OpenStudy (kathryn.goodnight):

is it the same or different when I subtract?
