You are going to need to use the slope formula to start. Do you know this?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yes
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Just a bit rusty,
OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
Cool. do this for the points, and you get your slop.
m=y2-y1/x2-x1
y and x are the points, respectively.
OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
So, the next thing you do after that is figure out the y - intercept.

The slope would be 2, correct?
OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
This is made easy because there is a point with x as zero. The y coordinate the you find next to it is the y intercept.
Let me see...
OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
This is for the second line, the y intercept. I'm checking your slope. Which line?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Oh, I was doing it for line 1.
OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
Ok.

OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
Very close. It would be 1/2.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Oh
OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
(6-4)/2-(-2)
=2/4
=1/2
OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
Then, we dot he same for the other line.
m1=1/2
m2=?
? = you tell me. If incorrect, I will explain. If not, sweet!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
let me see

im in 6th grade
OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
Oh! Sorry, didn't mean no to you. You can ask a question at the top left of the screen
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Mathmagician, make a new question with what you need help with.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I mean emon

7. Maria wants to cover the box shown below with paper. Which of the following could be the
dimensions of the paper so that Maria has enough to cover the box, including the ends, with a
little left. Here is the pic:

OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
Hmm. I'll brb

Gotcha

Alright im back.
OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
Let's see
OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
You have the y - intercept for line two
OpenStudy (anonymous):
8th grade?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
that was the question that was hard

OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
it's 4. So the equation for line 2 is
y = 3x + 4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Where did the 3 come from? Sorry, haha.
OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
Then, find the y intercept for line 1 by putting in 0 for x at this point
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Is the y intercept 2?
OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
No! Actually, plug in th values for y and x into the equation we already have,
y = 1/2x + b
and use algebra to find your answer.

Emon. Why are you in here? I though you were in 6th grade
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yea i am
OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
It's an 8th grade question, and it's pretty much done

So Rev. You got the answer for the y - intercept?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
do u know anyone who could help
OpenStudy (mathmagician2201):
Yes! I will. Go make a question and I will help. I will not do it out of another thread, though.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok on the ask a question slot thing
