How did Austria-Hungary react to the Treaty of Versailles?

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

First, I am assuming that your teacher is using Austria-Hungary and the Austro-Hungarian Empire interchangeably. If that is the case, the most obvious change made was that it (the Empire) was broken into five new states: Austria Hungary Poland Czechoslovakia State of Slovenes, Croats, and Serbs This is probably the answer your teacher wants, but is ultimately incorrect. All these countries/regions declared independence before the Treaty was ever even signed. It is a common anachronism is public school history classes. All the same, I would go with the answer about the new states and give your teacher the version he/she would like to hear. After all, as William James would like to point out, it is pragmatically correct. Now, there was much more land-jockeying that went on after the war that involved many other countries, but again, I am guessing your teacher is not looking for anything that involved. If you would like to go a bit further and learn more about the empire and much of the fallout after the first Great War, read the content in the Wikipedia link I have included. It seemed substantially correct to me (though you can find revisionists to contradict that). Good luck with your homework!
