If given an inequality like y < 4x – 6 explain how to graph this and decide whether or not (-1, 5) is a solution to this inequality

OpenStudy (animallover8):

There are three steps to graphing an inequality: First, rearrange the equation so "y" is on the left and everything else on the right. Second, plot the "y=" line (make it a solid line for y≤ or y≥, and a dashed line for y< or y>) Then, shade above the line for a "greater than" (y> or y≥) or below the line for a "less than" (y< or y≤). The first step doesn't need to be used in this case, because the y variable is already isolated on the left side. After graphing this inequality using steps 2 & 3, you can find whether or not (-1, 5) is a solution or not by seeing if it is in the shaded area..

Hope that helps.
