The important thing is that 3 was added to x in one equation (the different letters just symbolizes that they are separate)

When you adjust the x value, you shift the graph horizontally. Because it is +3, the graph moves 3 spaces to the left.

While you shift horizontally by changing x, you shift vertically by adding to the end of the equation. The original g(x)=x^2 -1 is actually already shifted 1 down. So, with this information, what do you think -1 should be changed to? (You were close w/ your answer, but it is -1 to start)
