\[V_O=\frac{4}{3}\pi R^{3}\]\[V_I=\frac{4}{3}\pi r^{3}\] therefore \[V_T=V_O=V_I=\frac{4\pi}{3}(R^{3}-r^{3})\] and since \[D=2R\] and \[d=2r\] then \[V_T=\frac{\pi}{6}(D^{3}-d^{3})\approx0.524(D^{3}-d^{3})\]
