The map of a biking trail is drawn on a coordinate grid. The trail starts at P(−2, 2) and goes to Q(5, 2). It goes from Q to R(5, −5) and then to S(8, −5). What is the total length (in units) of the biking trail? 10 16 17 18

OpenStudy (mathmale):

One method would be to plot the given points and to connect the points with lines as appropriate. You may be able to read off the distance from one point to the next directly from the graph. If not, you could apply the distance formula to find the lengths of the sides.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Find the lengths of PQ, QR and RS separately and then add these lengths together to get the total length of the trail.
