Propane can b best prepared by the reaction: A).Ch3Ch2Br + (Ch3)2CuLi (Et2O) B).Ch3Ch2Ch2COONa +NaOH /CaO @parthkohli
@kainui
for practical aspects, I find A to be better because B has more byproducts
How can u say that B has more byproducts?
Only water and carbonate ion are the side products that are formed in this reaction as far as i know.
A
Why?
A has no by products
What are RCu and LiX then?
BTW both methods are used
They are essential for reaction... they are reagents
In the first reaction the side products are RCu and LiX And for second reaction i already mentioned for in reference to parth's post.
Hey wait do u wanna say that RCu and LiX r reagents for the corey house synthesis.?
This is Corey house alkane synthesis... Yes.. They react with RX to form R2CuLi
Exactly RX is the reagent which is made to react with Li. And not LiX and RCu . These are the products formed along with alkane.
Then R2CuLi react with R'-X to form R-R'
Correct! What about the by -products ?
R-X +2Li = (R+) (Li- )+ LiX in presence of Cux to form gilman's reagent
So It should be A
Will u agree that products formed are alkane,RCu and LiX
