OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

What was the first time you remember hearing about the conflict between the Soviet Union (or the USSR) and the United States? Tell me about it.

OpenStudy (vortish):

There really has never been a out right conflict between the USSR or Russia and the the USA. The Cold war started in 1947 because the then USSR wanted the BOMB and they sent spys to the usa to get it. Then from 1949 to the early 90's the cold war was a game of one up man ship between the USA and the former USSR.

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

What does the term “Cold War” mean to you? What do you remember seeing or reading in the news about the Cold War, or conflict between the USSR and the United States?

OpenStudy (vortish):

President Regan and Michael Gobacheiv ended the cold war between the USA and the former USSR and that is also when the berlin wall came down which was a major component of the cold war between the two countries. Yes it was a major issue when I was in high school. I remember watching a live cnn report when the wall came down in world history class. The cold war was a war that was fought with out a formal declaration of hostilities between the USA and the former USSR

OpenStudy (vortish):

any more questions

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

yea

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

I have nine left what are the list of places that you lived between 1945-1989? first and last name? (have to have it) What books, movies, cartoons, or posters did you see that villainized either country, capitalists, communists, or dealt with the Cold War? How did they shape your impressions at that time? What were you taught in school and at home about the conflict? What did your school and family teach about nuclear threats and nuclear war? Were you or any of your family members ever afraid that there would be a hot war or nuclear war between the two countries? When did you feel that way? If yes, did you do anything to prepare or get ready for it? What aspects of the Space Race, or competition to explore space, do you remember? Was "Space Race" a phrase that you remember using at the time? What did it mean to you? Can you think of any specific examples of rivalry between the USA and USSR in other areas of life, such as sports? Do you remember the Berlin Wall coming down? How did it make you feel? How have your feelings about that era changed since 1989 and the Berlin Wall coming down? What lessons should students today take away from the Cold War? What was it like to experience all of this? How did feel about experiencing it?

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

is this (President Regan and Michael Gobacheiv ended the cold war between the USA and the former USSR and that is also when the berlin wall came down which was a major component of the cold war between the two countries. Yes it was a major issue when I was in high school. I remember watching a live cnn report when the wall came down in world history class. The cold war was a war that was fought with out a formal declaration of hostilities between the USA and the former USSR) to the second question

OpenStudy (vortish):

yes

OpenStudy (vortish):

Jeff Pierce

OpenStudy (vortish):

The places I live in in Colfax WA and Anacortes WA and Coulee City WA

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

k

OpenStudy (vortish):

James Bond by Ian Flemming was a huge part of the culture during that span. It often made the USSR look like the villains and to a point they were. The books were made into movies so you have two there. The Jason Born books were written some time in the late 80s as well as Dale Brown. The Dale brown books were The future of USA warfare and the main enemy at the time was the former USSR

OpenStudy (vortish):

Yes i was taught at school and at home because my father was a history teacher so I learned a lot about the cold war from him. I did a report on nuclear war and missile tech in fourth grade which was in the 80s and nuclear war was a real threat at that time

OpenStudy (vortish):

The Falkland war in the 80s and the fall of Yugoslavia were conventional conflicts that threaten to bring both countries in the conflicts

OpenStudy (vortish):

well the first satellite was russian called spuntnik and we were the first to moon though russia was the first to put a living thing in to orbit. The challenger was the first reusable space craft though the USSR had one but never completed that program. We had the challenger disaster in 80 or 81 and that made world headlines. as what it ment to me not much I was really young at the time though I did want to go to the moon!

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

the last one I changed so here's the first one why was the nuclear war a real threat at the time? but question 10 is still the same

OpenStudy (vortish):

Nuclear was a real threat because of the amount of weapons that were in the world. the geopolitical climate at the time was tense between us and russia and several other nuclear powers.

OpenStudy (vortish):

there were two big things other than military that happened in sports between us and the former USSR. Hockey has always been a big rivalry between the two nations. And we boycotted the Olympics that were held in the USSR i dont remember the year.

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

this one (there were two big things other than military that happened in sports between us and the former USSR. Hockey has always been a big rivalry between the two nations. And we boycotted the Olympics that were held in the USSR i dont remember the year.) is for seven right

OpenStudy (vortish):

Yes I remember the wall coming down I was in history class at the time and we were watching CNN live as the people jumped on the wall with sledge hammers breaking it apart. I was happy for Germany to be a single country again and that meant a lot for the German people. I also have a few relatives that are in Germany and they were happy beyond belief because some of their relatives were in east Germany

OpenStudy (vortish):

what to take away from that cold war is nothing is ever what it seams and any thing can happen at any time so be prepared and watch what is going on around you

OpenStudy (vortish):

It made be a be aware of what is happening in the world! I stay abreast of all things connected to the world we live in today. you never know what is going to happen so by being informed I stay ahead of any thing that may hurt me or my family

OpenStudy (vortish):

growing up in the late 70. 80, 90s were a interesting time in the USA lots of new things came into being. Cell phones, Internet, ect. This made the world a smaller place and things happen faster. You might be a week from learning something in the eighties but today its instant. So I feel we are more informed which makes better people

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

this is nine right srry for asking just got them mixed up (It made be a be aware of what is happening in the world! I stay abreast of all things connected to the world we live in today. you never know what is going to happen so by being informed I stay ahead of any thing that may hurt me or my family)

OpenStudy (vortish):

yes and the last one is ten

OpenStudy (princesskitty01):

K thx so much I really appreciate you doing this

OpenStudy (vortish):
