Help me brainstorm for an essay I'm about to write! I chose to write about Japanese Internment Camps, and I'm supposed to write about how it's important for new American citizens to learn about this event.

can't see the assignment
It doesn't let you see it? I can just screenshot it then. Here:
Here's the second page.
well, any ideas for the first paragraph? why do you think americans should learn aobut it? why is it important? does it have any relevance to our current state of affairs?
That's what I'm having trouble with, is figuring out what my argument is. I guess it could be to teach new citizens about the darker side of American history, but that's just about it. How else could this info teach new citizens about American history?
well, that's a good reason. also, i suppose the internment also effects how Asian (esp. Japanese) citizens have been affected, which gives us insight into race relations within the country
learning about how the country responds to a foreign threat could also be useful in preventing something like this from happening in the future
That's true, but it seems like a strange argument to make, almost like it's trying to scare off new citizens. But I like the way you put it, like it's something to learn from.
I suppose, i'm not the best person to ask about this heheh
it's just a matter of brainstorming + research
Can you think of anything else to add to that argument? I apparently wrote about this in my notes awhile ago, and all I could think of was that it's a mistake to learn from, and that it's some insight on the darker side of American history.
I can't really think of much more than those two points.
Here's what I wrote about for questions 1, 2, 3, and 4 (screenshot 2): 1. Important facts to bring up are stories and the many memories primary sources have from this historical event, the poor conditions they suffered through, the huge number of Nisei who decided to renounce their citizenship after this event, ect (give me a sec to type the rest)
2. This event is important for new citizents to understand because it is a huge mistake the US made that should be learned from. It also gives a better understanding about what went on inside the US during the war. 3. The perspectives of the primary sources help to understand the suffering that went on inside the camps and how their lives went downhill due to property loss. 4. Primary sources make many valuable points in this case. They help prove that the US does not have an innocent past, and that there's much to learn from this historical mistake.
@Vocaloid Anyways, thanks for your help. I will write down the points you made and keep them in mind while I write this essay. I really appreciate it! :)
