OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

Which binomial is a difference of squares? answers in question

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

@Samslays

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

@Mehek14 @jigglypuff314 @Bobo-i-bo

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

@rebeccaxhawaii

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

Do you know what it means for a binomial to be the difference between two squares?

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

no :(

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

It is the literally the difference of two square numbers. For example x^2-y^2 is the difference between two square numbers. 16-x^2 is the difference between two numbers (since 4^2=16). 36-4x^2 is the difference between two square numbers, because 6^2=36 and (2x)^2=4x^2

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

Do you understand now? :)

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

yeah

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

i think its 36x^2+81

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

@Bobo-i-bo

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

am i right?

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

DIFFERENCE. not sum :P

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

ohh ok

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

It is DIFFERENCE of two squares afterall ;P

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

so i am right?

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

is your answer the difference between two square numbers?

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

i think so... but not sure

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

Difference means minus. For example, what is the difference between 5 and 2? Well the difference is 5-2=3! What is the difference between A lots of apples and B lots of apples? Well the difference is A-B! Understand better? :)

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

ohh so its gonna be a minus not plus

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

^_^

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

in that case its A

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

@Bobo-i-bo

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

sorry to keep bugging you

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

No, dw! I'm on here to help people afterall ^_^

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

ok... so i think A

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

Is 14x^2 a square number?

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

yes

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

What is it the square of?

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

196

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

nope, the square of 14 is 196

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

we are trying to find whether 14 itself is a square number

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

(and it's not)

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

ohh no

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

but 25 is!!! and its got a minus

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

so C

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

Yup! :D

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

finally... just to make sure it is c right?

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

yup ^_^

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

can you help me with 1 more question and than i think im done

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

sure, do it in a new thing though

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

i will
