Can someone please help me answer this math question? Please? I'll fan and give a medal!! I'm working on polynomial division Question - 21x^3 - 42x ----------- 7

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

@Photon336 could you help me please? I don't know what to do with the ^3

OpenStudy (photon336):

HiNT: On the top you can factor out a 7x

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

what do you mean? like subtract 7x from 42x?

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

oh but what about the 21^3 and 42?

OpenStudy (photon336):

\[\frac{ 21x(x^{2}-2) }{ 7} = 3x(x^{2}-2) \]

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

oh ok then what should I do?

OpenStudy (photon336):

hmm that's all you can do for this problem

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

I'm sorry but I'm a little confused... could you explain the steps? I went through the steps we did but I think some of them were deleted

OpenStudy (photon336):

so for the top we need to factor, this means taking out a number that is in every term. so we can factor out a 21 21(x^{3}-2)

OpenStudy (photon336):

because 21 goes into itself once and 41 twice.

OpenStudy (photon336):

so if you were to multiply 21 by the terms in the ( ) you would get what you had before 21x^3 -42x

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

oh ok

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

so divide 21 by 21 and 42?

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

@Photon336 ?
