Well the Soviet Union was very Communist and the U.S. was very democratic (Remember, the U.S. is a republic not a democracy, but has democratic values). The Soviet Union feared the spread of democracy and the United States feared the spread of Communism. Meanwhile, both nations were trying to spread their political ideology to OTHER countries. I'd say this created a lot of tension. In addition, the fear of another World War was very real because both countries were building nuclear weapons. The two nations were basically opposites and trying to hold their ground as world powers. Crazy scary time.
nice!
