Do you believe the Electoral College is fair? If not, what should happen to make elections fairer? I personally don’t think that the Electoral College is very fair but I don’t really see a “fairer” way. Often the popular vote is filled with uneducated voters so going with “majority rules” could be devastating. Maybe we should focus more on educating voters. Opinions?

OpenStudy (xikarkatvantasxi):

that sounds great is it for an assignment?

OpenStudy (xikarkatvantasxi):

sounds like a good answer :)

OpenStudy (cecil_the_weasel):

No it is not, though I had an assignment similar in 8th grade. :)

OpenStudy (okdutchman7):

That is a great start to develop your essay add ways that the voters can be educated.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why do you think the Electoral is not fair?

OpenStudy (okdutchman7):

You could discuss ways to improve the electoral college.

OpenStudy (okdutchman7):

Formula: 1. State your opinion 2. Propose a solution.

I am actually not writing an essay. I was just thinking that there have been times in U.S. history where a presidential nominee was much more popular than the other but still lost the race. For example, Al Gore and George Bush in 2000. I immediately thought about unfair that seemed. It wasn't power to the people, it was power to the few elected representatives of the people and some weird math as well. I wondered what would happen if presidents were elected directly by the people. Fair right? Well, it has a major con. Voters, especially younger ones, often choose people based on what they hear from peers instead of what they learn from analyzing candidates. While there is nothing wrong with talking politics among peers, this leads to an uneducated vote. I want to know if anybody can think of a solution or if one is even needed. Should the most popular nominee win or the ones that a handful of people vote in?

OpenStudy (cecil_the_weasel):

To make it clear, I understand that the United States is a republic and not a democracy, which is why we don't have direct voting.
