What are the intercepts of the line 5x+y=20 ? A. x- intercept:4 ; y^1 intercept: 30 B. x- intercept: ; y^1 intercept: -4 C. x- intercept: ; y^1 intercept: -20 D. x- intercept: -20 ; y-intercept: -4

First, review this concept: What does "x-intercept of a graph" mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where in x the line intercept

If you're working with a line that's not a horizontal line, then the line crosses the x-axis exactly once. What is the y-coordinate of any x-intercept?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

what is the x-coordinate of any y-intercept? It's really important to know this.

One way to go at this is to focus on only one at a time. Choose one: 5x or y?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

jacob: Sorry you didn't find my first efforts to help you to be effective. You MUST, repeat, MUST, understand what "x-coordinate" and "y-coordinate" mean, and then you MUST know how to identify them. A "y-intercept" is a point (x, y) with x=0 and y=some constant. The "y-intercept" of y=x is the point (0, 0); this is because the x-coordinate of a y-intercept is always zero, and in this case, for y=x, the y-coordinate of the point at which the graph crosses the y-axis is zero (0). Please find the y-intercept of y=2x+3. Hint" Let x=0; find y.

You may have to make a habit out of looking up terms you don't quite understand yet. That's why I asked you to explain what the "x-intercept of a graph" means, earlier.
