help :)

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

@asett

OpenStudy (asett):

yay! we got color!! :D

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

lol

OpenStudy (asett):

So translation just means it was moved, as if you physically picked it up and placed it in a new location. knowing that, can you take a stab at it?

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

2?

OpenStudy (pugtato):

yep it's 2 :)

OpenStudy (asett):

Not quite, that's reflection. Another guess?

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

3?

OpenStudy (pugtato):

whoops that is a reflection haha sorry IT'S NOT 2

OpenStudy (asett):

Exactly! Does that make sense to you @pugtato ? :)

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

Line segment AB has a length of 4 units. It is translated 2 units to the right on a coordinate plane to obtain line segment A'B'. What is the length of A'B'? 1 unit 2 units 3 units 4 units

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

@asett

OpenStudy (asett):

Can you take a stab at it? The answer is actually in the question! :)

OpenStudy (pugtato):

yep I got it, im actually learning the same thing XD

OpenStudy (asett):

Yay! Great, @pugtato

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

4?

OpenStudy (asett):

Exactly!! Awesome!

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

@asett

OpenStudy (asett):

Try this one on your own, it only requires some simple counting of units. :)

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

B?

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

@asett

OpenStudy (asett):

Nope, try counting from the point U. Get it to match to U prime.

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

A

OpenStudy (asett):

I don't think you quite understand how to do this problem. Let me explain it to you. We start with QRSTU, and then we pick a point on QRSTU (in our case, we picked U, but it really doesn't matter) and then we count how many units (or boxes) right and then down until we reach U' (U prime). Does that make sense? Try it again. :))

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

D!

OpenStudy (asett):

YAY!!!!!!! Great job!

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

:)next!

OpenStudy (asett):

Knowing what you know about translation (where you are just moving something, in this case simply to the right), take a guess! You should be able to nail it! :)

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

A!

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

@asett

OpenStudy (asett):

Almost! Awesome try!! But, are the prime segments really any closer to each other than the originals? No, because all you did was move them to the right, therefore the answer must be...?

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

b?

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

@asett

OpenStudy (asett):

Not quite. The answer is D. Do you understand why?

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

oh... yea i got it :)

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

Polygon ABCD slides 4 units left and 3 units up on the coordinate plane. If the original measure of angle A was 75 degrees, what is the measure of angle A'? 75 degrees 100 degrees 105 degrees 180 degrees

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

@asett

OpenStudy (asett):

Take a stab at it. Remember, this is just translation. Nothing else changes but the physical location of the shape.

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

100?

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

@asett

OpenStudy (asett):

If the original angle of angle A is 75, why then, if you just moved the shape to another location, would the angle of A suddenly become 100?

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

no..

OpenStudy (asett):

Sorry, I meant A' :)

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

So the answer is A? @asett

OpenStudy (asett):

Correct!! Awesome :D
