For the equation -4y=8x, what is the constant of variation? A. -4 B. -2 C. 1 D. 2
Since k is constant (the same for every point), we can find k when given any point by dividing the y-coordinate by the x-coordinate. For example, if y varies directly as x , and y = 6 when x = 2 , the constant of variation is k = = 3 . Thus, the equation describing this direct variation is y = 3x . http://www.sparknotes.com/math/algebra1/variation/section1.rhtml
What is k where do you get k??
K is short for "The constant of variation"
I'm still not understanding it I see how you get 3x but what does 3x even do?
@FortyTheRapper
Very confuseing haha
In his example, it's just basically saying for a given X value, the y value will always be 3 times that number, no matter what the number plugged in is
