OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

Please help! Thanks! http://prnt.sc/avddiq Im not sure what the answer is D:

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

You can use a calculator and make all the fractions into decimals.

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

so 1 would be 0.5 and 3/5 would be 35.0?

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

No. 1 is 1.0. 3/5 means how many times does 5 go into 3.

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

but then 3/5 is 1.666666....

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

5/3 is 1.6666 When the numerator is greater than the denominator, then the number is greater than 1. When the denominator is greater the numerator, then the number is less than 1.

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

3/5 is 3 divided by 5

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

oh

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

we can count c out because it is 0.375

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

D is 0.375. Not C

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

i did 3/8

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Yeah, that's answer choice D

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

omg oops

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

We can eliminate another one. Which one is greater than 1. It has a bigger numerator than a denominator.

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

we can eliminate B

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

\(\Large\frac {numerator}{denominator}\) No, be careful

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

but I would think C 625 would be the answer

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

That is the answer. We could eliminate b because it is less than 3/5. We could eliminate a because it is greater than 1.

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

0.6 ______ 5| 3.0 3.0 -------- 0 That's how we do 3/5, in case you were wondering!

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

Okay, thanks! :)

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

It was my pleasure!

OpenStudy (mrnood):

'Human Calculator' "Solves complex problems in a heartbeat..."

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

Haha, practice makes perfect. Once you do enough fractions, you'll be able to glance and tell that 5/9 = 0.55555, and 3/8 = 0.375, and 5/8 is 0.625. Also, medals don't necessarily always come from answering questions. Sometimes, the helper medals the asker because they participated in the discussion.
