Starting from 130 feet away, a person on bicycle rides toward a checkpoint and then passes it. The rider is traveling at a constant rate of 25 feet per second. The distance between the bicycle and the checkpoint is given by the equation d=|130-25t|at what times is the bike 15 feet away from the check point
well you have to replace d with 15 because the distance is 15 feet away
so you have \[15=130-25t\] do you know how to simplify that?
4.6 sec and 9.2 sec 2.9 sec and 5.8 sec 4.6 sec and 5.8 sec 2.9 sec and 3.3 sec
do you know how to simplify that equation?
Rhonda's question is appropriate: 15=130-25t need to be simplified first, and then solved for the value of the variable t that satisfies the equation. 15 and 130 are "like" terms; how would you combine them into ONE term?
23/5?
Was that meant to be the result of combining 15 and 130? Your 23/5 shows division, where no division is called for. Note that the 15 and the 130 are on opposite sides of the = sign. You need to move the 130 to the left side of this equation. To accomplish this, subtract 130 from both sides of the equation 15=130-25t.
not quite. I would try subtracting 130 from both sides. it is the simplest way to get the coeeficient of (t) and (t) itself to one side \[~~~~~15=~~130-25t\]\[-130~~~-130\]\[---------\]\[~~~~~~~?~~~~~~~~~~~?-25t\]
115=-25
Idk
15-130=-145 -145=-25t you then have to divide -145 by -25 to get t by its self
so divide -145 by -25
