Required help in understanding the fundamentals: Let us consider a simple cylindrical container filled with liquid (water). We all know that hydro static pressure at a point, depends on the depth from the top surface. The pressure is high nearer the bottom and the pressure is low closer to the surface. Here is my doubt: Why isn't there a liquid flow from high pressure to low pressure (i.e. from bottom of the container to the top )

OpenStudy (giantrobot):

Remember, pressure is force, the pressure at the bottom is caused by the mass of the water pushing down from the top.
