rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

idk what i can do for the chart thing.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

So you're OK with the first part of this 3-part problem?

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

yes i need help with part 2

OpenStudy (mathmale):

As you can well see, it's a heavy-duty question, especially the part where you're to obtain responses on some issue from 20 or more other people. You could, for example, write the headers freshman, sophomore, junior as labels for the 1st 3 rows of your table. You'd need to formulate some question or questions to use to label the columns of your table. For example, "student labels self as a Democrat" and student labels self as a Replublican (or as NOT a Democrat). Such a table would have 3 main rows and 2 columns; you'd need to create an add'l row and add'l column to have room to write the sums of all rows and columns.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Such a table is called a "conditional probability" table or "2-way table." Familiar with those?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Note that this is strictly an example; I just invented this particular table as an example of what you need to do for yourself based on a mini-research-project.

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

so i cant use this example??????????????????????????????? ;'c

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Wow. You look VERY sad. You'll have to decide for yourself whether you want a real life survey in which you talk to at least 20 people and ask their opinions or preferences, or would settle for a totally invented example. Unfortunately, finding and talking with 20 people is a BIG order.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Only you can decide that question for yourself. If you choose to use my example, we'll still have to come up with numbers with which to fill all the nice little empty boxes in the table, and then we'll have to add a column for sums and a row for sums.

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

unhealthly / healthy foods

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

this would work right?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

You willing to talk with 20 people about that issue, as the problem statement seems to require? Sure, that example would 'work,' but either you talk with 20 people or you invent responses to put into all those nice little boxes in your 2-way table. ;)

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

2 steps ahead of you. im gonna make it up.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Good. Spunky you. but you've gotta be prepared to explain and defend your work.

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

my teachers are lay back. they wont mind.

rebeccaxhawaii (rebeccaxhawaii):

thanks c:
