if one value of x gives two or more values of y ,then it is not a function.

What specifically sets C apart from the other answer choices?
all the numbers are positive, while on a,b,and d there is at least one negative?
@mathmale
look at option C |dw:1463085407727:dw|
i dont know
i dont understand @surjithayer

Yes, as Surj said. Lets look at A first. We have 3 (X,Y) values Are any of those 3 "X" values the same number?
no
@FortyTheRapper
I can help
When looking at functions, the simplest way of determining if it's a function or not is by the vertical line test
You basically take a pencil or your hand vertically, and see if the "function" touches the pencil/hand more than once
When a function touches the pencil vertically twice, it means that for one given x value, there are multiple y values
Does this make sense?
Right, there not the same. That means A is a function. Now look at C
Please look at Option C again. You'll note that 0 appears twice as the first element of each coordinate pair (x,y), and that there's a different y value for each. No soap. This means C is not a function. A function is notable in that there is never more than 1 y-value associated with any given x value. A function is a "one to one" rule.
Thanks everyone. I figured it out. I went on a LL and asked them to explain it and they did.
