OpenStudy (unique_am_i):

Can someone help me with payroll?

OpenStudy (robster):

yes

OpenStudy (unique_am_i):

at the jackson concrete company, the regular work week is 40 hours. if an employee works more than 40 hours per week, they are eligible to receive overtime pay, which is 1.5 times their normal pay rate. calculate the gross earnings of each of the following emplyees. Just a second and I'll write the rest

OpenStudy (robster):

how many days do u work a week and how many hours did you work over time

OpenStudy (robster):

my bad i meant how much an hour do u make

OpenStudy (unique_am_i):

Jason Pick pay rate $11.35 hours worked m 8hrs t 8 hrs w 8hrs t 8hrs f 8 hrs s 4hrs s 0hrs alicia mitze pay rate $12.00 hours worked m 8hrs t 8hrs w 8hrs t 8hrs f 8hrs s 2hrs s 4hrs

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

First, add all the hours for the worker. Then subtract 40 from the total hours. If the difference is positive, that is the number of extra hours. For the 40 hours, multiply 40 by the regular pay rate. For the extra hours, multiply the number of extra hours by the pay rate and by 1.5 Then add the two amounts of the last two lines above.

OpenStudy (unique_am_i):

So the top one is 44 added together and the bottom is 38. Subtracting 40 would be 4 and -2. I'm not sure what else you want me to do.

OpenStudy (unique_am_i):

@mathstudent55

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The first one is correct. Check the total number of hours of the second one.

OpenStudy (unique_am_i):

So its be 46-40=6. I mustve missed an 8 haha

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Ok. Now you're good. Let's see what you have done so far, and what it means. Jason Pick worked 44 hours. He worked a regular work week of 40 hours, plus 4 hours of overtime. Alicia Mitze worked 46 hours. She worked a regular work week of 40 hours, plus 6 hours of overtime. Ok so far?

OpenStudy (unique_am_i):

Good so far!

OpenStudy (unique_am_i):

@mathstudent55

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Great. Now we can go on. Each person has a hourly salary. For the regular work week, Jason earns $11.35 per hour. Now we need to calculate how much Jason earns for his regular work week. Multiply his hourly salary by the 40 hours. What is 40 * $11.35?

OpenStudy (unique_am_i):

454

OpenStudy (unique_am_i):

and the bottom would be 480 @mathstudent55

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Correct. You have now both of their regular work week earnings. Now you need to calculate the overtime for each one.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Jason: $454 + overtime Alicia: $480 + overtime

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The hourly rate for overtime is 1.5 times the regular salary. Jason worked 4 hours of overtime. Alicia worked 6 hours of overtime. To find how much each one earned from overtime, multiply the hourly salary by 1.5 and by the number of overtime hours.

OpenStudy (unique_am_i):

I got 68.1 for Jason and 108 for Alicia. Is that correct @mathstudent55

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Great work! Now just add the regular work week salary to the overtime salary for each one. Jason: $454 + $68.10 Alicia: $480 + $108

OpenStudy (unique_am_i):

$522.1 $588

OpenStudy (unique_am_i):

So would that be the gross earning? @mathstudent55

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Correct. The gross pay is the amount earned from salary before any taxes or deductions are taken off.

OpenStudy (unique_am_i):

@mathstudent55 thank you so much, you made it really easy to understand!!
