Can someone please help me solve this problem? It's in the attachment below.

The first thing to do is to subtract 1 from both sides. Why do we do this? So we can get the square root all by itself. We're undoing the +1 \[\Large \sqrt{x+8}+1 = 9\] \[\Large \sqrt{x+8}+1-1 = 9-1\] \[\Large \sqrt{x+8} = 8\] What comes next?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no, think of what we need to do to undo that square root

OpenStudy (missskittlezneedshelpstudying1):

how do u make that arrow thing? I don't see it on my keyboard

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

arrow thing? oh you mean ^ ?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

shift+6

OpenStudy (missskittlezneedshelpstudying1):

I mean the thing overtop the x+8

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh the square root sign? you can type `sqrt(x+8)` to mean \(\Large \sqrt{x+8}\)

OpenStudy (missskittlezneedshelpstudying1):

ok thanks I figured it out its C

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Hopefully you squared both sides? Then subtracted 8 from both sides?
