Hello! I was hoping someone could explain to me a confusing problem, please? It has an image, so I'll upload it in a second. Solve for x and y.

OpenStudy (cookies4everyone):

OpenStudy (will.h):

If this is about Geometry A then you can use proportionality theorem to figure out the value of x. What course is this?

OpenStudy (cookies4everyone):

I don't understand why sometimes it wants an answer like this: \[x=4\sqrt{2}\] and then sometimes for a different problem, it wants me to to just put the number (like say 3*15 or something) in the square root. How am I supposed to know which one to do?

OpenStudy (cookies4everyone):

It's Geometry on PowerAlgebra if that helps?

OpenStudy (cookies4everyone):

Oh wait sorry, I meant the answer to 3*15 in the square root

OpenStudy (will.h):

I got ya. But I really believe that the value of y should be known!

OpenStudy (cookies4everyone):

the y part is a bit confusing too. I do the correct steps, I think. I follow the example, but it doesn't tell me why sometimes the answers are different.

OpenStudy (will.h):

They're different because either the lengths of the sides are different or the question is asking to find a different side.
