Why do we not notice the effects of length contraction in our everyday lives? For example, why do cars not appear shorter when they drive past us at high speeds?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The car isn't moving fast enough. If it were to drive at speeds close to the speed of light, then you'd notice it undergoing length contraction. Then again, it would be moving so fast that it would be so hard to measure anyway This page has a good example http://www.physicsclassroom.com/mmedia/specrel/lc.cfm
