Help please! Will medal and fan :) A character from a novel or play that you have recently read is on trial, and you are the attorney defending him or her. Identify the novel, the character, and the crime (the crime can pertain to an act or a personality trait) for which he or she is on trial. It is time for the closing arguments of the case, and you are responsible for creating an appeal to logos that will persuade the jury to liberate the character. Your appeal to logos should be a well-developed paragraph of at least six sentences.

I just need ideas and someone to guide me because I am not the best writer
What are some pieces you have recently read?
Umm, I haven't been reading much because I've been so busy with work :/ but I'm pretty sure the last thing I read was the Divergent series @Aveline
But if you have any recommendations, that'll be great. I might have read some books you know about
WBU @countryboy15 or @Antoniolara_ do you guys have any ideas? I am so lost, lol
not a clue lol
Lol same
@supercalifragalisticexspeaalli
hey what is the book called
I was going to base my paragraph off of Tris from the Divergent series. Have you read Divergent?
So far I just wrote the first sentence Tris from the Divergent series is getting charged with resistance to authority, assault, and murder.
no i watched the movie tho lol
Oh ok, lol. It's kind of the same thing I just don't know what to put for the argument
Do you know how to use logos in an argument?
Logos is just logic.
For example, you might argue that the character did not break a specific law for a specific reason. You might also argue that there is no evidence to convict them, etc.
well for the arguement you can put that she is resistant to join the same district as her parents because she is what they call a "Divergent" so she is now on the run.
Yeah, I am typing up my argument rn, and when I'm done I'm gonna past it here and you can see if it sounds good or not, lol
was that helpful at all @Kimberly_PR
Tris from the Divergent series is getting charged with resistance to authority, assault, and murder. However Tris is not the guilty one here, there is a logical explanation to why she did those things, and once I explain them you'll see that really, Tris is innocent and she is not at fault for what happened. First of all, let's talk about what really happened. The leaders of Erudite, the intelligent, teamed up with the leaders of Dauntless, the brave, to exterminate, or get rid of everybody in the Abnegation faction, the selfless. So right off the bat we see who the evil ones are. How could anybody have the heart to exterminate a whole faction, kids and all?? Moreover, why would anybody want to exterminate the Abnegation faction, which consists of purely selfless people?? In order to achieve this, the leaders of Dauntless, using a serum that the leaders of Erudite provided them, injected this serum into their soldiers to make them completely succeptible to orders and directions. This worked on all the soldiers except the few who were divergent, because divergent can resist/ block the serum, while others can't. Since Tris is divergent she was able to resist this serum, and when she saw what was going on, that they were using them to kill all these innocent people, she of course tried to stop this from happening, because that is what heroes do. So she resisted the serum, and resisted captivity, therefore "reisting authority" so she could save the millions of lives at stake. She also then had to fight off many people violently, therefore "assaulting them", but also for the same purpose, to save all these innocent people from dying. Lastly, when she was on her way to save these peoples lives, her friend and fellow soldier, still under the serum, was in her way, and he was going to kill her so she wouldn't have a chance to sabotage this plan. And as sad and horrible as it made her feel, the only way for her to survive and be able to save everyone else, was by killing him. But trust me, it hurt her, she did not at all enjoy it, and she still feels guilty to this day. However, she is not guilty, she is innocent. Moreover, she's a hero. A hero who took risks and put her life on the line to save a whole faction filled with people.
^^ Sounds good? @Aveline @supercalifragalisticexspeaalli
Looks good ^^
And also, how can I apply this prompt (the prompt I will put below) to this same book? Think about a literary work that you have recently read. Choose either the feminist or New Historicism critical theory, and explain your interpretation of the plot or character from the work. How does viewing the plot or character through the chosen perspective affect your interpretation of it? Your response should be at least six sentences.
@Aveline
Well, you can talk about the main character's power to start an uprising. You can use this and the feminist theory.
Is the feminist theory about feminism and how girls get treated differently than guys even tho we're all equal? Or am I way off? @Aveline
lol way off
Oh fr? LOLL Then what is the feminist theory?
I'll look it up, lol
Feminist theory is the extension of feminism into theoretical or philosophical discourse. It aims to understand the nature of gender inequality.
Oh nevermind, I just saw you answer
Thanks :)
lol np
While I work on that, can you help me with one last thing please? @supercalifragalisticexspeaalli or @Aveline
Sure
This is the last prompt I need to write about and I have NO IDEA Choose a work of literature that you would identify as Gothic. Identify the title of the work and at least three characteristics that make the text a Gothic work. Explain how these characteristics are present in your chosen literary work. Your paragraph should be at least six sentences
Any Gothic literature you've read?
I'm not too sure what is Gothic literature... But I'm pretty sure I haven't read any
Definition of Gothic Fiction. The term Gothic fiction refers to a style of writing that is characterized by elements of fear, horror, death, and gloom, as well as romantic elements, such as nature, individuality, and very high emotion
Can you give me an example of a Gothic piece of literature? I don't really read scary or gloomy type books
According to Wikipedia, "Gothic fiction, which is largely known by the subgenre of Gothic horror, is a genre or mode of literature and film that combines fiction and horror, death, and at times romance" Have you read Frankenstein or Dracula? Wuthering Heights? Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde?
I read once a while ago Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, but I kind of need a refresher, lol
is that the name of the book
http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/jekyll/summary.html You can write about the horror, violence, and death as defining Gothic characteristics.
